More bang for your fast buck

MASERATI has added another model to its portfolio for people who want cars just a bit different from next door’s Camry.

The Italian maker has blended the luxury and refinement of its GranTurismo with the hard-edged performance of the 4.7 litre GranTurismo S to produce the GranTurismo S Automatic.

It’s on sale now, for $328,500. And that doesn’t include the statutory and dealer delivery fees.

Fitted with the same 323kW 4.7litre engine as used in the ripsnorting GranTurismo S, the new automatic variant has the same 295km/h top speed and is only fractionally slower to 100km/h.

It has been made possible with a software package that enables gears to be held right to the 7200 rpm red line, something no other auto in the world can match.

The car has slight body changes to give it a different profile and it runs on 20-inch wheels.

“Given its breadth of abilities, a level of exclusivity that is unrivalled and that it is the pinnacle of the Maserati legend, we are certain that it will account for the majority of GranTurismos sold in Australia,” Maserati spokesman Ed Butler said.

The GranTurismo S Automatic has a six-speed self-adapting automatic gearbox with four modes: Auto Normal, Auto Sport, Auto Ice for low grip conditions and manual mode.

To personalise the car, buyers can opt for one of 10 colours of Poltrona Frau leather, 13 colours for the stitching, seven for the carpets and three types of prestigious wood: walnut, rosewood or the new polished wengè.
