MORE than 20 St John of God Subiaco Hospital staff have sent grog on a holiday for 29 days to raise money for various community organisations supporting young people experiencing problems with alcohol or drugs.

The nation-wide FebFast initiative is an annual health and charity campaign which encourages people to forgo alcohol for the shortest month of the year.

SJOGSH raised more than $20,000 for FebFast last year.

SJOGSH paid the registration fees and threw a FebFast Mocktail party for teams and their supporters.

Hospital chief executive Shane Kelly said it was the second year Subiaco staff had taken part and it was great to see so many people willing to make a big personal commitment to benefit others.

“Not only will they receive the personal satisfaction of raising money for a very worthy cause, I’m sure they will also enjoy the benefits of what a month without alcohol will do for their health, waistlines and wallets,” Dr Kelly said.

SJOGSH’s social outreach and advocacy volunteer coordinator Joshua Nipps is taking part and encouraging colleagues, friends and family to support participants.

“The hospital is already a strong supporter of this cause due to our social outreach and advocacy services, which address alcohol and drug issues, and FebFast is a great way for our staff to do their part in raising awareness of these issues within our community,” Mr Nipps said.
