OPPORTUNITIES for hairdressing, building and construction apprentices received a boost with the opening of new facilities for the WA group Training Scheme in Wangara last month.

Training and Workforce Development Minister Peter Collier opened the centre, which provides state-of-the-art training colleges for apprentices to ensure a continued supply of skilled people to the workforce.

“The new premises, which will have a capacity to train up to 40 apprentices at one time, will allow people to train in a world-class environment,” Mr Collier said.

“Investment in facilities such as these support apprentices to continue to train and learn new skills, while ensuring industry has enough skilled people to meet its long term needs.”

Mr Collier said the Department of Training and Workforce Development would work with training providers and industry to deliver a contemporary and relevant training sector that was responsive to industry and community needs.

“By working together, we will ensure that we have a skilled workforce to benefit from the job opportunities that are starting to unfold in WA,” he said.
