THE psychological thriller of two ex-cons who board the last train to Fremantle at Midland station on a hot summer night, will be very close to home, when it hits the big stage at the Melville Theatre in February.
The Return, directed by Jeff Hansen, is better known for its silver screen version, Last Train to Fremantle, which was released in 2006.
The play follows the events that occur on the train ride involving the two men, a young law student, a middle-aged woman and a writer.
“As the action heats up along with the temperature, the focus of the action begins to change,” he said.
Since the first production in 2002, the play has won several theatre awards and Hanson said he chose to direct The Return because it was a very powerful play.
“It is a fantastic play with a twist,” he said. “We don’t get many plays set in WA so it’s good to have a great one based in our backyard.”
The play contains some coarse language and violence and is suitable for adults only.
The Return is playing at the Melville |Theatre Company on Friday, Saturday and Sundays, from February 12 to 27.
